This Swim Cap Is Perfect For Protecting Natural Hair

Meet Nomvuyo Trevvers, a South African photographer and mother. Nomvuyo was looking to take her daughters to swimming, but she was unable to find swimcaps that were designed to suit their natural curls. Enter Swimma.

Swimma was born when Nomvuya decided to take matters into her own hands! Run out of Cape Town, South Africa, the line of swimcaps is designed by black women, for black women, and specifically created to protect natural hair.

"I often avoided going swimming because I could not bear the chore of having to blow-dry my dreadlocks for hours. My children also complained about uncomfortable swimming caps that could not fit over their high-volume hairstyles," she told Bona.

The innovative momtrepeneur hopes that she can encourage more black girls to get involved with swimming through Swimma products, which effortlessly fit black styles, from fros to dreads.

The mother of two said she is working with schools Cape Town and Johannesburg to provide caps to young girls, and hopes that her brand can help improve self-image in a country still scarred by racial issues.

She said: "As a mother and a proud black woman, I also use my business to spread the notion of inclusion. My company is not just about swimming caps; but catering for everyone.

"It is vital that we do not let our children grow up feeling that their hair is a problem because a swimming cap is too small or too big. I want them to wear their hair with pride and not worry about not fitting in."

We agree and wish her every success!
