Obama Foundation To Empower 200 Future Leaders From Africa

There was no slowing down for Barack Obama when he left the White House. The former POTUS has dived into charitable and leadership initiatives through The Obama Foundation. Along with Michelle Obama, the former president has promoted a number of causes, from education to empowerment. Now Obama is turning his efforts to helping create the next generation of leaders.

The Obama Foundation Leaders: Africa program is a one-year scheme to help empower future leaders and community activists across the continent to continue to effect position change in their environments.

In a statement, the Obama Foundation said "We are committed to growing our global network of innovative and ethical changemakers who seek to drive change in their communities."

Starting with five days of training from 14-18th July, the former president's foundation hopes to help 200 young leaders from government, to civil society, and the private sector.

Unsurprisingly, the programme saw incredible interest, with 10,000 applying for the coveted 200 spots. Obama will kick off the initiative in Johannesburg, South Africa, attending a town hall meeting to speak with the emerging leaders in the programme.

The legendary former POTUS will also deliver the 16th Annual Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture while in Johannesburg in July.

Even while no longer in office, Barack Obama continues to make a difference!
