Oprah Winfrey is undoubtedly a living legend. New graduates at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles were treated to an appearance by Oprah on Friday, who had some wise words to say to them.
Known as much for her outstanding oratory as her multimedia empire, it's no surprise that the inspiring woman was once tipped to run for president. While she has no plans to enter politics, Oprah's journey, rising from poverty to becoming a billionaire, continues to inspire many.
Speaking to graduating students of USC's Annenberg School for Communications and Journalism, the veteran broadcaster imparted some of her knowledge in a commencement speech. She had some words of warning, as well as hope for the future, and encouraged the audience to get involved and help change the world.
"You will become the new editorial gatekeepers, an ambitious army of truth seekers who will arm yourselves with the intelligence, with the insight and the facts necessary to strike down deceit," Oprah told the attendees.
She also paid a visit to Thando Dlomo, a South African masters student who had attended Oprah's school, the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in Gauteng. Oprah mentioned her in the speech, saying "Thando Dlomo, I’m here to say I am so proud of you. Long way from the township in South Africa and her Aunt has flown 30 hours to be here for this celebration today. Thank you so much."
