Meet Tyler Mitchell, The Black Photographer Beyonce Picked For Vogue

Beyoncé is no stranger to uplifting other black creatives, just look at her Homecoming Scholarship Programme for HBCUs which has announced its first 8 recipients. So when Beyoncé was given creative control over US Vogue magazine's famed September issue, for which she will be the cover star, The Good Queen Bey once again showed her commitment to empowering black creatives.

She chose Tyler Mitchell, a 23 year old who will be the first black photographer to shoot a cover in Vogue's 126 year history. He's no novice. The Brooklyn-based picture prodigy graduated from New York's Tisch School of the Arts, and has worked with designers including Marc Jacobs and Givenchy. His work has also been in publications like US Vogue, i-D, teen Vogue, and others. Solange also tapped him back in April for her performance piece at UCLA.

And if that's not enough, check out his work. Mitchell has a reputation for stunning pictures, and many black men and women are the subject of his work.
