Meet this week’s Female Fridays feature, Aïssata Lam. Aïssata is a Mauritanian development professional that featured on the BBC’s 100 Women’s list in 2019.
Now let’s dive into what she’s up to!
As a co-founder and president of the Youth Chamber of Commerce of Mauritania, an organisation created in 2013, she helps bridge the gap for young Mauritanian entrepreneurs and professionals through funding initiatives. They recently launched an amazing hybrid innovation lab and venture fund in partnership with the National Bank of Mauritania. Why? So they can fund start-ups and strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem for women to access funding for their business ventures.
What’s something special that she’s working on?
Appointed by the French president Emmanuel Macron in 2019, Aïssata Lam is currently serving on the Gender Equality Advisory Council for the G7. Her role includes working closely with government ministers to introduce legislation that will improve women’s rights, with a specific focus on the economic empowerment of women.
