Are Black Panther's Female Characters Getting Their Own Movie?

'Black Panther' was an undeniable smash, soaring to the top of the box office, grossing over $1bn, and becoming a source of inspiration and pride to many people across the world.

With a key role for Wakanda's heroes in the latest Marvel flick 'Infinity War', and a 'Black Panther' sequel reportedly in the pipeline, this cultural phenomenon shows no signs of dying down any time soon.

'Black Panther' director Ryan Coogler set tongues wagging at the Cannes Film Festival over the weekend, with hints at another 'Black Panther' movie focusing on the characters.

In response to an audience question at a panel, Coogler said "We have these actresses who could easily carry their own movie. Some of them have before!" He also referenced the fact that a female-led spin-off of 'Black Panther' already exists in the Marvel Universe through a comic about the Dora Milaje, Wakanda's women warriors.

The director added that much of the second half of the film focuses on characters played by Lupita Nyong'o, Letitia Wright, and Danai Gurira. He remarked "There’s a whole section of the film where T’Challa is out of the movie and you’re just following the women, and that’s one of my favorite parts of the movie."

So far there's been no outright confirmation of the movie, but we think it would be a great idea! 'Black Panther's own Princess Shuri, Letitia Wright, is fully on board.

Our fingers are crossed!
