Coconut Oil
Fresh coconut oil comes as a solid oil which can be used liberally to keep natural black hair looking and feeling sleek. Just take a spoonful the size of a marble and hold in your hand until it melts, then apply liberally to your locks from top to bottom making sure you mould and pat your hair to make sure each strand is fully covered. Coconut oil is also a great body moisturiser and can improve the condition of the skin, keeping it soft and supple.

Mayonnaise
Mayonnaise is a very well-kept secret conditioner which will keep afro hair in tip top condition! Mayonnaise contains eggs, vinegar and lots of oil which will smooth your hair and bring out its shine. Use warm but not hot water when you wash it out to give your hair a little TLC. You can also use it as a moisturiser for softening hard skin on your feet, so treat yourself this summer and go for some all-over pampering!

Plain Yoghurt
Yoghurt provides moisture and protein to help keep your hair silky smooth - just make sure that you use plain or Greek yoghurt. You can also add some honey for added luxury. Honey is a lovely addition as it locks in moisture, keeping your frizz under control as well. Plain yoghurt is a great toner and cleanser for your face as well, and will naturally balance your skin’s pH level. Slather it on and leave for a few minutes until your skin is refreshed and gently cleansed.

Molasses
Molasses contain lots of proteins and minerals which your hair needs to keep it healthy. Using molasses as a hair treatment will tame your hair and keep lots of moisture in so you can say goodbye to frizz. You can also use molasses to help to heal any cuts - try adding some tea tree and lavender oil to improve the texture and increase its effectiveness. Great for skin infections or when you just need some soothing.

Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is a great product to help keep your scalp dandruff free, with an invigorating tingling sensation after use. It also removes unwanted greasiness from your hair and scalp and leaves your hair shiny by smoothing the hair shaft. You can also use apple cider vinegar to tone skin and balance its natural pH level. Water it down and use a cotton pad to apply it to the skin. Plus, if you’ve got a cut and need to keep it bacteria-free you can dab some diluted apple cider vinegar onto the affected area, as it’s a natural antiseptic.

Got some leftover bananas in the fruit bowl?
