As designers and retailers continue to see the power in having non-straight sizes at the forefront of their campaigns, more plus-size creatives are able to make lucrative incomes while inspiring women to love the bodies they’re in.
Many of these plus-size influencers are a part of the African diaspora. These women use their platform to represent body positivity, while displaying pride in their African heritage. She is also the founder of Sistah Wxman, which she describes as a “community, telling the story of embodiment, in all its expressions.”

Cynthia Gwebu is a style and lifestyle blogger based in Johannesburg. Her ability to take fashion trends and fit them for plus-size bodies is what earned her 34,500 Instagram followers. She is also known for her stunning Instagram feed. Gwebu recently started an extension of her blog, The Nxt Chptr.

Thickleeyonce is an influencer, YouTuber, photographer and plus-size model based in South Africa. When she’s not slaying looks on Instagram or her YouTube page, she is leaving inspirational quotes about self love and beauty.
Yoliswa Mqoco
Yoliswa Mqoco is a style influencer based in Cape Town. Her outlandish style is what has earned her 58,400 Instagram followers. She was also rewarded with the 2019 Cosmopolitan Best Disruptor Influencer Award. Mqoco also uses her platform to openly express her views on rights for LGBTQ+ people in South Africa.
Lala Neriah Tshabalala
Lala is a body positive activist, model and designer based in Sandton. Her signature blonde, bold cut and sexy style helped to catapult her platform’s success. She also uses her page to share her love for Africa and makes sure her 94,000 followers know that it’s her home.
