We discover Essence on instagram and we wouldn't believe your beautiful, clean and precise her braids are. We contacted her immediately and she was more than willing to answer our questions .
Essence is a natural hair stylist located in the US. She has a real passion for braids and recently launch an online training platform to teach people step by step how to recreate her favourite styles, while she is very busy managing her salon and clients, she was able to spare some minutes to answer our questions..

1.What made you start braiding and why do you love it so much?
Essence : I feel like I was born for this, and when I say that I mean that I didn't seek this out. I discovered early that I could braid and enjoyed it. I don't remember learning, but it was something that was an innate gift and I made it my business to perfect it. As the years progresses I realized that I could truly make a living off of my passion while making my people look and feel beautiful naturally. My entrepreneurial spirit came from my father. He had always set the standard to me for becoming a business woman. I evolved from a stylist, to salon owner, to educator and all I want to do is inspire others to live out their dreams because we all have gifts that we are purpose to share.
2. What keeps you motivated
Essence: I am naturally a driven individual and I cannot stand being stagnant. I always want to push myself to be better and achieve more than the year before. I remember when my signature style was published in Essence magazine and people ask me how I felt about it, and while I felt happy I wasn't satisfied with that being the end of the story.
3. Any advice to someone who wants to start a business?
Essence: For anyone who wants to start a business, I first say that you must wholeheartedly believe in your ability to succeed. That belief will cause you to invest in yourself whether it be something as small as purchasing your first set of business cards to investing tens of thousands into your first business venture. I say this so seriously NO ONE will believe or invest in you if you don't! Do the practical things first, the things that cost no money like think of s business name, write out a plan, start saving money. These are all things you can start doing today. The rest will come as long as you are committed to doing the work . I know this because this is my story from my mother's laundry room at 17 yrs. old to opening my first salon at 25 to now. Its about the steps and habits you form everyday. Don't get discouraged with where you are today as long as you are further than the day before you are making progress.
