Like A Boss! This UN Initiative Will Help Empower Women

We love to see women's empowerment here at Grass-fields. Whether it's through shouting about some of our favorite female-led brands, or paying tribute to some inspirational women on International Women's Day, we will always stand up strong and be counted when it comes to uplifting women.

A new initiative from the United Nations is going to help empower thousands of women across South Africa and the Middle East to take control of their lives, and we couldn't be more thrilled!

On Sunday at a meeting in New York, the UN Women organization and NAMA Women Advancement Establishment, an Emirati non-profit, signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at promoting self-sufficiency for thousands of women.

This marked the launch of a 3 year programme which is going to carry on UN Women's mission, and boost opportunities for women entrepreneurs in South Africa, the UAE, and across the Middle East region.

With this initiative they plan to help a staggering 25,000 women, with special attention to those in poverty. As well as funding, the agreement will help them expand their capacity so they can meet bigger orders, help get the word out about the businesses, and help the women develop their business skills so they could even go global!

Lana Nusseibeh, the UAE's ambassador to the UN, said: "We hope that this programme will serve to foster women’s economic empowerment by providing women entrepreneurs with access to markets, finance, and skills."
