Beautycon New York Was The Most Diverse Yet
It's back! Beautycon, the celebration of cosmetics and beauty culture returned to New York this week. Held over the 21st -22nd April, the convention brought together some of the most famous make up moguls and beauty gurus, and 20,000 attendees.
Held four times a year, in Dubai, New York, London, and Los Angeles, Beautycon has attracted 100,000 fans - and counting. At the Javits Festival, Beautycon held panels, influencer meetups, and exclusive brand drops.
Collaborating with BET for content and some of the events, Beautycon New York was one of the most diverse yet, and the first Beautycon to sell out its tickets.
There is news that Beautycon will branch out into pop-ups and retail next year, following on from the latest successful event. These are some of the biggest names that made their presence felt in New York this week.
As a model, actress, and musician, Zendaya is no stranger to the spotlight. The entertainer made her mark at Beautycon, speaking on a panel with Uber's head of brand Bozoma Saint John. Covering topics as diverse as beauty, mental health, colorism, and Rihanna, Zendaya and Bozoma's 'Meeting of Two Queens' was an important conversation for Beautycon.
Our session was appropriately named “The Meeting of Two Queens”! But we didn’t just meet... we SPOKE LOUDLY. And since the tables were turned, I was the moderator asking @zendaya to preach on this here lovely Sunday afternoon about what beauty means to her, describing self-care, our fearlessness in our ownership of beauty, why we love Rihanna, mental health as an important component of inner beauty, and how to use the privilege of “light skinned-ed-ness” to shed light on the depths of black beauty in Hollywood. LAWD!!! It was an awesome session. Thanks again to @beautycon and @mojism for having us!! #blackgirlbeauty #blackgirlmagic #watchmework #iwishoprahwouldvegivenmetipsoninterviewing #beautycon
What beauty festival would be complete without one of the biggest beauty influencers? Jackie Aina was of course in attendance, and worked a gorgeous blue jumpsuit at the popular event.
Celebrity hairstylist Tokyo Stylez turned up to Beautycon New York, presenting a demonstration on BET's Show & Tell Stage at the event. With help from model Mia, Tokyo Stylez treated the crowd to tutorials based on some favorite celebrity looks from Cardi B to Kylie Jenner.

Danielle Brooks of 'Orange Is The New Black' fame shone at Beautycon. Brooks took to the main stage to talk about self-love and talked about how beauty, and its definition, is not simply one-size-fits-all.
